Four distinctive routes for varied days in the saddle

The shorter rides starting at Weissensee are ideal for an easy introduction. When you want to venture farther, these four official routes reveal very different sides of the region: royal history, cross-border panoramas, hilltop ruins and Allgäu cheese culture.

The times shown are riding times only. Allow extra time for stops and sightseeing, and check the current route and any closures before setting out.

Royal trails and far-reaching views

Royal Schwarzenberg Circuit

16.1 km · 156 m ascent · about 1 hr 15 min

This compact circuit follows in the footsteps of King Ludwig II, linking Lake Schwansee, Hohenschwangau, the Fürstenstrasse, the Forest Experience Centre and the Lechfall gorge — a wealth of history and scenery in a relatively short ride.

Zirmgrat Circuit

30.2 km · 174 m ascent · about 2 hr 15 min

This cross-border circuit loops around the long Zirmgrat ridge south-west of Füssen. Highlights include Weissensee, the Forest Experience Centre and Lechfall; Germany’s highest castle ruin looks down from Falkenstein. Some sections call for confident bike handling.

Castles, ruins and Allgäu cheese

Castles and Ruins Circuit

42.1 km · 379 m ascent · about 3 hours

This full cultural circuit is distinct from the short ride from Weissensee to the castle ruins. It links royal palaces, Füssen’s High Castle and ruins on both sides of the border — from Lake Hopfensee via Eisenberg, Hohenfreyberg, Falkenstein and Vilsegg to Hohenschwangau.

Emmental Cycle Route from Hopfen am See

59.5 km · 360 m ascent · about 4 hours

The longest of the four circuits links five small dairies that make cheese traditionally and sell it on site. Gentle climbs, open countryside and flavourful stops alternate between Hopfen, Lehern, Wald, Rückholz and Weizern. Please check dairy opening times in advance.
