Traces of the ancient Romans in Allgäu

Around 2000 years ago, the Roman legions advanced into the foothills of the Alps and what is now southern Bavaria. A little later, the Romans founded the province of Raetia (Raetia), whose first capital was Cambodunum, today's Kempten. There, and also in other Allgäu cities, traces of the ancient Romans can still be found today, which provide interesting cultural and historical impressions.

King Ludwig II of Bavaria

King Ludwig II of Bavaria, often simply called the fairy tale king, shaped the Allgäuer Königswinkel all around Füssen in the Allgäu like no other and is still extremely popular today, far beyond 100 Jahre after his death. He went down in history above all as a passionate castle builder who left posterity with magnificent buildings such as the Neuschwanstein, Herrenchiemsee and Linderhof castles, which are now world-famous sights.
