Holidaymakers in the hiking paradise Füssen-Weißensee have the opportunity to get to know the approximately 125 kilometer long Lechweg, which has been awarded a high-class quality label. This is possible, for example, on a hike on the Lech loop “From See to See”, which leads through the Füssen Lake District and is an approximately 15 km long extension of the Lechweg.
The 2012 opened and approximately 125 kilometer long Lechweg follows the course of the fascinating wild river from its source at the Austrian Formarinsee to the Füssener Lechfall. The attractive long-distance hiking trail leads through three regions and two countries with extremely varied landscape formations and many natural highlights. The unforgettable natural experiences along the route as well as high-quality and well-signposted trails have earned the Lechweg the “Leading Quality Trail – Best of Europe” quality label, which was awarded by the European Hiking Association. The Lechweg also includes ten relatively short Lech loops, which enable half-day and day tours and are ideal for getting a taste of this attractive long-distance hiking trail. We would like to introduce the approximately 15 kilometer long Lech loop “From See to See”, which leads through the Füssen Lake District, in more detail here. The start and finish point of this hike, which is suitable for anyone with sufficient fitness and takes around six hours, is the east bank of the Lech Falls in Füssen.
Right at the beginning of this great tour, a real highlight awaits hiking enthusiasts: from the König-Max-Steg, which leads over the Lechfall, you can admire up close the roaring masses of water that plunge 12 meters into the depths before flowing further into the Lech Gorge. On the west bank of the Lech Falls, hikers follow the Ländeweg into Bad Faulenbach, which belongs to Füssen and is a scenic gem. The so-called “Path of the Senses” leads through this green oasis, past several nature experience stations such as a Kneipp facility and a barefoot and balancing path, to the Mittersee and Obersee. The two idyllic bodies of water are popular bathing destinations in summer with beautiful lawns on the banks and places to stop for refreshments. From here the tour continues through shady forest to the legendary Alatsee, which lies at the end of the valley on the German-Austrian border.
A recently created bird trail leads around the Alatsee, which some may know as the setting for a Allgäu crime thriller with Inspector Kluftinger, which introduces young and old to the bird species that live here using interactive showcases. The hikers cross a parking lot on the north bank and then follow the signs to Weißensee. As always throughout the tour, there are great views of the magnificent Allgäu mountains on the descent to Weißensee. On the banks of the Weißensee, the center of the holiday home, you go right along the water to the steep climb to the Hahnenkopfweg. Now the route of the Lech loop follows the water strider and sky towerer route of the hiking trilogy Allgäu towards Füssen for a while. The Hahnenkopfweg and the Untere Kobelweg lead the excursionists back to Bad Faulenbach above the Füssen outskirts of the city.
The Lech loop runs through the Baumgarten city park to the beautiful St. Mang church, in front of which the Lech is crossed. We finally return along the Tiroler Straße to the starting point of an unforgettable hike that offers a wealth of fantastic landscape impressions.
