A varied winter hike:
The Bootshafen circuit is a short but extremely varied winter hike that runs on cleared paths and is also suitable for families with children and seniors. The tour leads through the romantic Füssen old town along the enchanting Lech to the shore of Lake Forggensee.
On the 4,1 kilometer-long boat harbor circuit, you walk through the romantic Füssen old town to the banks of the Lech to accompany the wild river on its way to Forggensee, which is the largest Allgäu lake. The tour lasts around an hour and offers varied impressions as well as great views of the fairytale royal castles and the snow-capped mountains. At the Tourist Information, keep left to walk to Schulhausstrasse, which you follow to Theresienstrasse. Now turn right into Sebastianstrasse and immediately turn left twice into Hochstiftstrasse. After you have crossed this, walk past the sports fields down to the banks of the Lech. The Lech, which rises in Vorarlberg, Austria and flows through Tyrol and southern Bavaria before flowing into the Danube, is one of the last wild rivers in Europe. Depending on the weather conditions in the previous days, its water appears turquoise, deep green or even brown. The foot and cycle path along the Lech takes you to the shores of Lake Forggensee, which is a popular excursion destination all year round. In winter the reservoir is drained so that walks across its bottom are possible, where traces of the old Roman road Via Claudia Augusta can still be discovered.
At Forggensee you can reach the Füssener boat harbor, where two passenger ships, the MS Allgäu and the MS Füssen, set off on their round trips on the Forggensee several times a day from June to October. At the boat dock, keep left and cross Weidachstrasse at Haus am Forggensee. Now walk up the King Ludwig promenade, which offers a fantastic view of the magical royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau and the snow-covered Ammergau mountains. At the end of the promenade you reach Schulhausstrasse, which you follow to Kaiser-Maximilian-Platz. From here it is now just a stone's throw to the Tourist Information.
