From Friday, December 2 to Sunday, 4. December and from Friday, 9.December to Sunday, 11. In December, the inner courtyard of the venerable St. Mang monastery, which stands in the middle of Füssen's romantic old town, is transformed into a fascinating, colorful sea of lights. Here, traders offer all sorts of goods such as wood carvings, homemade soaps, Christmas decorations and special culinary delicacies at their magnificently decorated stands. Meanwhile, on the Klosterhof stage, bands and singers provide the appropriate musical setting with Bavarian Christmas carols and gospel songs. Visitors to the Füssener Advent market leisurely stroll from stand to stand while a potpourri of Christmas scents wafts into their noses and they are tempted to try cookies, waffles, raclette, crepes and all sorts of Allgäuer delicacies. Of course, a glass of mulled wine or punch shouldn't be missed, because that's just as much a part of a Christmas market as a visit to Castle Neuschwanstein is part of a holiday in Füssen-Weißensee. The romantic Füssener Advent market offers the perfect way to get in the mood for the festival and is a special experience for the whole family.
A trip to the 11 is also worthwhile. Culinary St. Nicholas Market in Schwangau, which takes place on Sunday, 04.12. ab 14 Uhr in Mitteldorf. Here, in the immediate vicinity of the magical castles Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein, culinary specialties such as roast ox, freshly smoked fish and Kaiserschmarrn await visitors at lovingly decorated stands. Handicrafts and Christmas decorations are of course also offered. A youth band provides musical entertainment with Christmas carols and the children can look forward to a varied supporting program, which is crowned by a visit from Santa Claus in the evening. He then drives up in style in a horse-drawn carriage and distributes gifts to the little ones.
On Sunday, 11.12. ab 13 Uhr, one of the most atmospheric Christmas markets in Bavaria will take place on the festively decorated Leonhardsplatz in Pfronten-Heitlern. Against the wonderful backdrop of the Allgäu mountains, visitors are offered special features such as a live nativity scene and a varied stage program with music, dance and a shepherd's play.
