Füssen-Weißensee is considered a real hiking paradise with numerous great tours for every level that lead through the picturesque Allgäu landscape. Attractive mountain hikes with unforgettable views of the vast foothills of the Alps are also possible around Weißensee. Such a tour leads from the Tegelberg to the Alpe Jägerhütte, which is located at an altitude of 1422 in the Ammer Mountains.
The idyllic Füssen-Weißensee is perfect for a successful hiking holiday, where one highlight is followed by the next. Hikes to suit every taste and fitness level are possible here, with wonderful landscape impressions and soothing air. Of course, the region also offers the opportunity for scenic mountain hikes in the Allgäuer Alps, for example to rustic huts such as the Alpe Jägerhütte, which is located in the middle of the Ammergebirge nature reserve. The approximately 17 km long hike presented here is of medium difficulty and is suitable for everyone with sufficient fitness. However, strenuous inclines cannot be overcome here. The starting point of the tour, for which approximately 6 Stunden should be planned, is the valley station of the Tegelbergbahn at Tegelberg in Schwangau. Since the Alpe Jägerhütte is open from mid-June to mid-September, the tour should ideally be completed during this period.
The varied hike to the Jägerhütte starts with a ride on the Tegelbergbahn, which takes hikers to the mountain station at 1720 meters. On the way there are great views of the foothills of the Alps and the royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, which stand in the middle of the idyllic mountain landscape. At the mountain station you continue on foot along the “Ahornreitweg” nature trail in about 20 minutes to Branderfleck. The path to the hunter's hut is signposted, so there is little risk of getting lost. From Branderfleck, the excursionists hike on to the Ahornsattel in around 30 minutes, where they descend to the left. After a short intermediate climb you will reach the Niederstraußbergalm a little later, where you keep to the right and continue climbing up to the Niederstraußbergsattel. Then we continue comfortably to the left over the Köllebach and the Ochsenängerle, a lush green meadow, to the Jägerhütte. Great impressions of nature and views of the vast foothills of the Alps are omnipresent throughout the entire tour.
While the cows graze on green meadows around the Alpe Jägerhütte, hikers can make themselves comfortable on the terrace and enjoy a delicious snack made from fresh regional ingredients. Coffee and homemade cakes are also available here. Freshly refreshed, we then head out on a wide forest path that takes hikers in around an hour to the Bleckenau mountain inn, which also invites you to take a leisurely break. A minibus runs several times a day from the former royal hunting lodge of Ludwig II, which takes hikers back into the valley to Hohenschwangau if desired. The tour continues on foot along the so-called water pipe path further down the valley to Neuschwanstein Castle. Here, hiking enthusiasts march through the wildly romantic Pöllat Gorge back to the starting point on Tegelberg.
After the hike you can still experience a lot and have fun at Tegelberg. There is a cozy beer garden, entertainment for children and a great summer toboggan run that promises fast-paced fun. Worth seeing are the Roman villa complex that was excavated and of course the world-famous castles, which impress millions of people every year with their beautiful and magnificent interiors.
