A promising circular tour for fans of Nordic walking leads from the idyllic Faulenbacher Tal over the Ländescharte to Austria and back to German soil past the Füssener Lechfall. A varied terrain and a stunning natural landscape make this tour a highlight for advanced hikers.
The gentle, full-body training Nordic walking is suitable for almost all ages and has many health-promoting effects. If you also move in the middle of an idyllic dream landscape, Nordic walking becomes a complete pleasure. Fans of this endurance sport, which comes from Scandinavia, can look forward to lots of fun and enjoyment of nature on the approximately 6,5 kilometer long “Over the Ländescharte” circuit presented here. The cross-border tour, which takes about an hour and a half, covers constantly changing terrain so it never gets boring. The start and finish point is in the immediate vicinity of Füssen-Weißensee at the mini golf course in Bad Faulenbach. There is a parking lot opposite the facility on Alatseestrasse.
From the parking lot, follow Alatseestrasse towards Mittersee and Obersee. Here in the Faulenbacher Valley there are really optimal conditions to let your thoughts wander and forget the stress of everyday life for a while. The quiet valley of the senses is a natural jewel with lots of greenery, picturesque lakes, colorful meadows and impressive rock formations. Mittersee and Obersee are right next to each other and have natural pools that are popular leisure destinations in summer. On warm days, the tour can be wonderfully combined with a bit of swimming fun. There is also a Kneipp spa facility at Obersee, which invites you to bring your body, mind and soul into harmony and relax. The facility includes a pedaling pool, a fountain, a pedaling area and several changing benches.
After you have left the two Waldseen behind you, walk for a while through the quiet Faulenbacher Valley before turning left towards Ländehof. You reach Austrian territory via the Ländescharte. You now follow the country road, after a while you cross the border again and finally reach the Füssener Lechfall, over which the König-Max-Steg leads. It's worth stepping onto the 1895 footbridge and watching the impressive natural spectacle up close, in which roaring masses of water plunge twelve meters into the depths and flow into the Lech Gorge. The Füssener Lechfall is one of Füssen's most popular tourist attractions and one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Germany. Also worth seeing is the bust of King Maximilian II, which is located in a rock niche above the gorge. It was donated by the city Füssen in memory of the Bavarian king, who was responsible for the new construction of Hohenschwangau Castle and did a lot for the region.
At the Lechfall, follow the Ländeweg for a bit before you return to Alatseestraße via the Schwärzerweg and Fischhausweg. After about an hour and a half, this varied Nordic walking tour ends, which offers a wealth of beautiful natural impressions and is really a lot of fun. You can end your trip to the Faulenbacher Valley on the mini golf course, which includes a cozy beer garden. The facility, which is located in the shade, is in operation every day from Easter to October, weather permitting.
