Great impressions of nature and Tyrolean hut flair: the Füssener hut

There are so many great tours possible around the hiking paradise Füssen-Weißensee that you are spoiled for choice. The 14,8 kilometer-long hike through the Tyrolean Reintal to the Füssener hut guarantees a successful tour with varied natural impressions and Tyrolean hut flair as well as culinary delicacies, which is also not all that strenuous.

The rustic Füssener hut is located at 1550 meters above sea level in the Tyrolean Reintal in front of the impressive north faces of the Tannheim Mountains. It can be reached on a scenic and panoramic hike that is suitable for anyone with sufficient fitness. The hut is open for business from the beginning of May and then pampers its visitors with a variety of culinary delicacies such as Kaiserschmarrn, homemade cakes and game dishes from local hunts. The starting and finishing point of the hiking tour, which takes around five and a half hours there and back, is the parking lot at the Bärenfalle inn in Musau. To get there, take the A7 via Füssen, which you leave behind the border tunnel at the Vils exit. Now the signs to Musau lead you to the starting point. If you use public transport, take the 74 bus from the Füssen train and bus station towards Reutte and get off at the Roßschläg stop.

At the starting point, hikers take the Reintalweg, an easy-to-walk hiking trail that leads mostly gently uphill to the Füssener hut. Shortly before the Musauer Alm there are fantastic views of the rugged north faces of the Tannheim Mountains, two of which Marie von Bayern even climbed. The Musauer Alm, which like the Füssener Hut is open from May onwards, allows you to take a first break. Here, hiking enthusiasts can enjoy homemade strudels and dumpling specialties or a hearty snack before the strenuous one-hour climb to the Füssener hut.

In the Füssener Hut, your physical well-being is also well taken care of thanks to a variety of delicacies. The homely ambience and the great views of the surrounding magnificent mountains also make you feel right at home here. If you still have enough energy now or again, you can hike from the Füssener hut to the summit of the Große Schlicke (2059 Meter) in about an hour. The well-signposted climb is not very strenuous, only the last few meters are quite steep. You will be rewarded for the tour with an unforgettable summit view of the surrounding dream landscape.

The way back from the Füssener hut into the valley takes the same route as the way there. On the way there is the opportunity to take a short detour and hike to the Achilles, a foothill of the Schlicke massif. To do this, turn onto the hut road behind the Musauer Alm. A great view of the picturesque foothills of the Alps also awaits you on your armpit. Afterwards it goes steeply downhill towards Musau; After a while, the hikers get back to the Reintalweg, which takes them back to the starting point of this wonderful hiking tour.
