The approximately 9 kilometer long Kobelsteig circuit is a varied Nordic walking tour that leads past several lakes through the idyllic Faulenbacher Valley. The circular tour is easy and can be wonderfully combined with swimming fun in the natural pools on the Mittersee and Obersee in summer.
The gentle endurance sport Nordic walking, which comes from Scandinavia, is an ideal holiday activity because walking quickly with two sticks is considered extremely healthy, reduces stress and allows you to explore your holiday area in a fun way. Around Füssen-Weißensee you will find many beautiful routes for every fitness level, which run through the wonderful Allgäu foothills of the Alps. The approximately 9 kilometer long Kobelsteig circuit presented here is certainly one of the absolute highlights. The tour leads through the idyllic Faulenbacher Valley, which belongs to Füssen and is something like the city's natural spa park. Pretty mountain slope forests, species-rich flower meadows and six small lakes that are strung together like pearls on a string make the car-free Faulenbacher Valley a scenic gem and a perfect place to relax. The lakes along the route offer wonderful swimming fun in summer and various Kneipp stations invite you to feel the power of the water and do something good for your body and soul. The starting and finishing point of the Kobelsteig circuit is the parking lot at the end of Alatseestrasse near the Bad Faulenbach mini golf course.
You start this Nordic walking tour, for which you should plan around two and a half hours, at the parking lot and head south towards Mittersee and Obersee. After a few minutes you will reach the Mittersee and Obersee, which are right next to each other in the picturesque landscape. Both lakes have outdoor pools with diving boards, non-swimmer areas, changing rooms and cozy lawns with shady spots. In summer, enjoy some swimming fun here before continuing the tour. At Obersee you will also find a Kneipp facility with a treading pool, a fountain and a treading meadow, which invites you to slow down and treat yourself to a Kneipp spa treatment.
From Mittersee and Obersee, the tour continues to the end of the valley to the mysterious Alatsee, which some may know as the setting for a successful Allgäu crime thriller. An interesting bird trail runs around the beautiful mountain lake, which is surrounded by many regional myths and legends, and introduces the local bird species. You can also cool off very well on hot days in the Alatsee. Here at Alatsee you turn sharply right onto Alatseestraße, follow it for about 150 meters back towards Bad Faulenbach and then turn left onto Birkenbühlweg. A little later this turns into the Kobelweg and on the Kobelsteig you walk comfortably along the Kobel back to the starting point. The final part of the tour offers some very beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.
After the Kobelsteig circuit, which offers varied impressions in a real natural idyll, you can still visit the mini golf course, which is located right here by the parking lot. There are numerous benches in the beautifully designed and shady area and there is also a kiosk with a beer garden. In the beer garden you can end your trip to the Faulenbacher Valley with delicious drinks and small snacks. The Kobelsteig circuit in the Faulenbacher Valley is definitely recommended for fans of Nordic walking.
