The approximately 39 kilometer long Three Ruins cycle tour leads through the beautiful Allgäu Alpine foothills past Germany's highest castle ruins on the Falkenstein as well as the Hohenfreyberg and Eisenberg castle ruins. With the highest castle ruins in Germany on the Falkenstein as well as the Hohenfreyberg and Eisenberg castle ensembles, this approximately 39 kilometer long bike tour offers three well-known Allgäu Allgäu sights along the route. In addition, cycling enthusiasts can expect a varied route and wonderful landscape impressions in the Allgäu foothills of the Alps. Due to the length and some steep climbs in between, this tour is of medium difficulty. If you want to be very comfortable, you can ride an e-bike, which can be rented from various providers around Füssen-Weißensee. The official starting and finishing point of the Three Ruins cycle tour is the welcome area at the church in Nesselwang. However, it is advisable for holidaymakers in Füssen-Weißensee to join the round, which also leads past Weißensee, almost right on their doorstep. Below we describe the route to you.
If you want to get on directly at Weißensee, ride here on the west bank below Oberkirch and then on the cycle path along the main road to Roßmoos. Here you cross the federal road to Wiedmar and continue cycling to Holz and Zell, where you can take a short detour to the Hohenfreyberg and Eisenberg castle ruins, which dominate the landscape here and are well worth seeing. After Zell, turn right and drive past the castle pond to Schwegg. On the tarred road we continue left past the Kögelweiher, where the Alpe Kögelhof is the first place to stop for a break. We then continue leisurely to Hertingen and Nesselwang, where the Three Ruins cycle tour actually begins.
At the welcome area in Nesselwang, in front of the church, turn left onto “Steinach” street and then take the next right and then the next left again to arrive at Von-Lingg-Straße. Now turn right into Lindenstrasse and left into Poststrasse. Follow this and the spruce road until at the end a gravel path branches off to the left that leads over a bridge. Now drive right along the stream to the next street, where you turn left towards Hertingen. After you have driven through the town, ignore the next left turning and continue cycling straight on a gravel path towards Pfronten-Rehbichel. You reach a tar road and turn left to get to Pfronten-Rehbichel. After you have left the village behind you, turn left twice in quick succession towards Pfronten-Kreuzegg. You cross the main road and follow a moss path to get to Meilinger Straße. Here, behind a right-hand bend, a path branches off to the left that leads you to Vils.
The route continues along the banks of the Vils towards the town of the same name. This section of the route takes you past Falkenstein, which is home to Germany's highest castle ruins and is one of the region's most popular attractions. At the municipality of Vils, follow the signs to the mysterious Alatsee, which you reach after a short climb. The mountain lake, surrounded by dense forest and the beautiful Allgäuer mountains, invites you to cool off on warm days before turning left along the lake to a road on which you roll downhill to the main road. Just before the road, turn left back to Weißensee.
