Ambitious mountain hikers use the hut as a starting point for demanding summit tours in the area.
The Füssener Jöchle is a saddle between the Sefenspitze and the Laufenspitze in the Tannheimer Valley. At 1821 meters above sea level, in the middle of a fascinating mountain landscape, is the rustic Sonnenalm, which is ideal for a successful excursion. In the cozy dining room or on the sun terrace, you can enjoy all kinds of Tyrolean delicacies with a view of the wide Alpine foothills. The hut can be reached from the small village of Grän on an easy hike in about two hours. Experienced mountain hikers can use the Sonnenalm as a starting point for attractive tours to neighboring peaks. The excursion begins at the valley station of the mountain railways in Grän. You can get there via Pfronten, parking is available at the valley station.
The village of Grän in the Tannheimer Valley, surrounded by magnificent mountains, is really manageable with only around 600 inhabitants. There is a relaxed, family atmosphere here: everyone knows everyone, people help each other and guests are welcomed with the typical Tyrolean warmth. The alpine nature all around invites you to do all sorts of sports and leisure activities in the soothing air and if you just want to let your mind wander while doing nothing, you can do so here. You start the hike to the Füssener Jöchle right next to the valley station of the mountain railways. After about half an hour of walking through the picturesque mountain landscape, the path forks. Both paths lead to the Sonnenalm, but the left one is a little steeper and more direct. If you follow this path you will reach the mountain hut located at 1821 meters after about two hours. When the weather is good, you can sit comfortably on the sun terrace, enjoy the fantastic view and enjoy a delicious snack or a warm hut meal.
If you want, you can climb the Gamskopf from the Sonnenalm in about twenty minutes. This extension of the tour does not cause much effort. A hike from the Füssener Jöchle to the Bad Kissinger Hütte is reserved for ambitious mountain hikers. It is advisable to first take the cable car to the Sonnenalm and start the four-hour tour from there. During the hike over the Sebenalm to the Bad Kissinger Hut on the Aggenstein, you can look forward to unforgettable distant views that extend over 100 kilometers when the weather is good. After stopping at the hut, we head back to Grän via the Enge and Lumberg. This mountain hike, which is approximately 13 kilometers long, is of moderate difficulty. Other worthwhile tours from the Füssener Jöchle lead to the Rote Flüh and the Große Schlicke.
Great natural impressions in the Tyrolean mountains, magnificent views of the foothills of the Alps and hut flair in the Sonnenalm - a trip to the Füssener Jöchle is always recommended for beginner hikers and families as well as experienced mountain hikers.
