A hike to the Gundhütte is particularly attractive in early summer, when countless arnica blooms in the meadow where the hut stands. Since most of the hike leads through shady forest, it can be completed on warm days without breaking a sweat. The Gundhütte welcomes visitors every day during the season, except Thursdays.
The ideal starting point for a tour to the Gundhütte is the picturesque Vilstal near Pfronten. The journey is from Füssen-Weißensee first to the town center of Pfronten. There you turn onto Vilstalstrasse at the level of the town hall, which you follow for approx. 3,5 km until you see a sign for the hut. There is a small parking bay just behind the sign. Then it's about a 45 minute walk uphill to the hut. The hikers pass through flowering meadows, walk through small forests and can always enjoy beautiful views of the Allgäu foothills of the Alps along the way. When you reach two forks in the road, keep to the right. Shortly before the destination, the hiking enthusiasts cross a path and a little later find themselves on the picturesque alpine meadow where the Gundhütte is located.
An alternative, also very easy route to the Gundhütte starts in Pfronten-Röfleuten at the parking lot at the fire station building. Here, excursionists simply have to follow the signposted, wide forest road to get to the Gundhütte. Because of the wide road, this route is a little easier, but it takes around 75 minutes. When they reach their destination, hikers can look forward to homemade cakes, Bavarian snacks and a variety of warm dishes that provide a well-deserved refreshment. A tour to the Gundhütte is also worthwhile from July to October on the first Saturday of every month. This is where convivial hut evenings with food and drink and hearty music take place. The best entertainment is guaranteed.
The Gundhütte on Edelsberg is also a perfect starting point for ambitious mountain hikes in the charming mountain world. It's not that difficult to reach the summit of the 1630 meter-high Edelsberg from here, which offers a great view of the Alpine foothills and the Tannheim Mountains. For example, the two and a half hour tour from the Gundhütte to the Hündleskopfhütte and back via the Höhenweg is also attractive.
