The Hopfen-Faulensee circuit

The Hopfen-Faulensee circuit

The Hopfen-Faulensee circuit is an idyllic winter hike that leads through the quiet snowy landscape northeast of Lake Hopfen and offers wonderful natural impressions and panoramas. At the dreamy Faulensee, a rustic hut awaits the excursionists, which spoils its guests with culinary delicacies.

Breathtaking views of the mountains, varied winter impressions in the quiet Hopferwald and the best Allgäu hut feeling at Faulensee - the approximately 5,9 kilometer long winter hike presented here lets holidaymakers in the picturesque Weißensee experience the beautiful sides of the cold season. The tour leads from the banks of the Hopfensee through a fairytale snowy landscape to the dreamy Faulensee, on the shore of which a cozy hut invites you to stop off. The hike is largely along cleared but snow-covered paths, but does not have any strenuous climbs, so it is suitable for anyone with a bit of fitness. The only requirements for the tour are sturdy shoes and warm winter clothing. The starting and finishing point is Haus Hopfensee. Coming from Weißensee, drive to Hopfen am See, where Haus Hopfensee is signposted.

Right at the beginning of this great winter hike there are wonderful views over the frozen Hopfensee and the snow-covered Ammergau and Tyrolean mountains. The tour first leads gently up the mountain road to the Enzensberg specialist clinic and then into the magical and dense forest. Hikers simply follow the signs to Faulensee while they walk in the forest and enjoy the many beautiful winter impressions here. Animal tracks from rabbits, deer and other forest dwellers can be seen in the snow and with a bit of luck you can even see them in the flesh. The pleasantly cold air refreshes the senses and makes the tour a pleasure. Finally, the excursionists hike along the eastern shore of the ice-covered Faulensee, which is framed by mighty snow-covered spruce trees. The Faulenseehütte then invites you to take a leisurely break.

The rustic Faulenseehütte welcomes its guests from December to April on Thursdays to Sundays between 11 and 18 Uhr. In a rustic atmosphere you can enjoy all kinds of delicacies such as Hüttenbriegl, soups and freshly smoked trout. For dessert there are sweet delicacies such as apple strudel with vanilla ice cream. From time to time special events take place in the Faulenseehütte, for example the “Winter Solstice Fire” with mulled wine served at 21.12. ab 19:00 Uhr. Especially in winter, when the surrounding Allgäu landscape is covered in white, the Faulenseehütte is a beautiful excursion destination for young and old. From the hut you continue left, past snow-covered meadows, in a right-hand loop into the forest.

The next destination is the so-called Koppenkreuz, which is located in a clearing next to a huge, solitary spruce tree. Since it can be seen on the hiking signs at Seeufer and before, day trippers cannot miss it. Now it goes slowly, alternating across sunny meadows and through the dense forest, back towards Hopfen am See. Hikers walk downhill on Enzensbergstraße and then take the Höhenstraße to the left to return to the starting point. If you still feel like it, you can stroll along the lively waterfront promenade in Hopfen and enjoy the 180-degree panoramic view over the Hopfensee to the Allgäu mountains.

The Hopfen-Faulensee circuit is highly recommended to all holidaymakers staying in Weißensee in winter. A successful winter trip with varied impressions and great views is guaranteed.
