A hike to the Kenz Falls in the Lobental near Füssen delights every nature-loving Allgäu holidaymaker with wonderful landscape impressions and views of the magnificent mountains. It's best to undertake this hike from May onwards, because that's when the Kenzenhütte, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the waterfalls, is open again and pampers hikers with homemade Allgäu delicacies at the end of the tour. From May it is also possible to take the hiking bus back to the valley from the Kenzenhütte. The starting point for the excursion to the Kenz Falls in the Lobental presented here is the valley station of the Buchenbergbahn in Buching, where there is sufficient parking space.
The hike from the valley station of the Buchenbergbahn to the Kenz Falls is about 10 kilometers long and is easy, so it is also suitable for families. At the valley station you first follow the local road to get to the center of Buching. Here you turn right, past the Tourist Information, to the outskirts of town, where a forest road leads up the Buchenberg. The Buchenberg is a popular excursion mountain, which is located in the middle of the beautiful Allgäu natural landscape and from which there are beautiful views of the wide foothills of the Alps. When they arrive at the Alpe Ebene pasture area, the hikers turn left towards Leiterau and Lettenfleck.
With a view of the Allgäuer Matterhorn, as the imposing Geiselstein is also called, we continue to a forest road that leads up into the Lobental. Here, however, the excursionists keep left, cross a small stream and then continue right towards the Bockstallschlucht. Numerous signs along the way ensure that you don't get lost. In the Bockstallschlucht there is the Bockstallsee, which offers a welcome way to cool off when the weather is nice. From the lake we continue to Wankerfleck, a valley floor surrounded by dense forest, which is considered one of the most picturesque spots in the foothills of the Alps. On the eastern edge of the Wankerfleck there is a small chapel that was built in honor of unfortunate mountaineers. Behind the chapel, the Geiselstein rises impressively - you should definitely take a photo as a souvenir against this backdrop.
Opposite the small chapel there is a narrow forest path that leads up to the Kenzenhütte. On the way there, hikers pass one of the Kenz Falls, which rushes through the magnificent landscape. The Kenzenhütte is at a height of 1300 and will be open for business from the beginning of May. Then there are delicious and homemade Allgäuer delicacies that can be enjoyed on a sunny terrace or in the cozy interior. The largest of the Kenz Falls is only about 300 meters from the hut. Below the waterfall there is a bench where you can sit down and take in the beautiful natural impressions. This waterfall is also a great photo opportunity.
From the Kenzenhütte you take the hiking bus down into the valley to the Bruckschmid car park. The bus runs on weekends from the beginning of May and several times a day from the end of May. From the car park it is just a stone's throw to the Halblech Ortsmitte stop, from where the 73 bus goes to Buching. Alternatively, you can return to the starting point of the tour on foot from the Bruckschmid hiking car park.
