The Otto Mayr Hut, located at 1530 altitude in the Tannheim Mountains, is a wonderful destination for a delightful mountain hike that doesn't require too much effort. This tour impresses with fantastic landscape impressions, Tyrolean hut feeling and varied culinary delicacies.
The Otto Mayr Hut, which stands in the Tyrolean Reintal in the middle of a picture-perfect landscape, welcomes its visitors from the beginning of May to the end of October and pampers them with hearty snacks, homemade cakes and delicious hut food. Several paths lead to this hut; We would like to present the simplest route, which takes around two and a half hours and can easily be completed by families with children, in more detail here. The starting and finishing point of this charming hiking tour is the Bärenfalle / Roßschläg car park in the Tyrolean municipality of Musau. You can get there from Füssen on the A7, which you leave behind the border tunnel at the Vils exit. Now the signs to Musau lead you to the starting point. Travelers using public transport can get from the Füssen train and bus station with the 74 bus in the direction of Reutte and the Roßschläg stop.
The tour to the old Otto Mayr hut over 100 Jahre begins at the starting point on the Reintalweg, an easy-to-walk and signposted forest and farm path. This takes hikers moderately uphill through a picturesque landscape. Hiking enthusiasts pass small streams, cross a forest and can enjoy the soothing mountain air and varied natural impressions. After a while you come across the Sababach, which invites you to cool off on warm days. The stream is crossed a few times before the excursionists approach the Musauer Alm, which, like the Otto-Mayr-Hütte, is open from May onwards. Before you stop here, you have a fantastic view of the impressive Tannheim mountains, such as the Kellenspitze and the Rote Flüh.
After the hikers have strengthened themselves with a snack and rested a bit in the Musauer Alm, they continue the tour to the Otto Mayr Hut. They soon come to a junction from which a path leads to the hut. If this seems too steep for you, you can simply continue the tour on the farm road, which also leads to the destination. Once there, it's a good idea to first enjoy the landscape and the view in peace before making yourself comfortable on the sun terrace of the hut. Varied Tyrolean specialties, hearty snacks and homemade strudel ensure your physical well-being here. In the immediate vicinity of the hut there is a lovely and lovingly landscaped alpine flower garden, which presents itself as a colorful sea of colors in spring and summer.
The Otto Mayr Hut is a starting point for climbing some of the peaks of the Tannheim Mountains. Tours to the 2059 meter high Große Schlicke and the 1968 meter high Schartschrofen are possible for almost everyone. The walking time is one and a half hours each. More demanding are the ascents of the 2111 meter-high Rote Flüh, the 2164 meter-high Gehrenspitze and the Kellenspitze, which at 2238 meter-high is the highest mountain in the Tannheim Alps.
