Especially for nature lovers: The Reichenbachklamm

The Reichenbachklamm is a wildly romantic gorge near Pfronten in Allgäu that every nature lover should have seen. It can be traversed on an eventful hike and delights with a variety of landscape impressions in the midst of a fascinating mountain world.

The Reichenbachklamm near Pfronten is surprisingly unknown, but represents a real natural highlight. A trip through this wild, natural gorge offers a variety of impressions and can be combined with an exciting mountain hike to the Aggenstein and the Breitenberg, which we would like to introduce to you in more detail here. The starting point for this tour is the valley station of the Breitenbergbahn in Pfronten-Steinach. However, the Reichenbachklamm can also be reached via other routes, for example from the “Alten Zollhaus”, the former German-Austrian border station in the Vilstal, between the Falkenstein castle ruins and the Aggenstein. No matter which starting point you choose to explore the Reichenbachklamm - the trip through this original gorge will delight the whole family.

The Breitenberg in Pfronten-Steinach is a popular excursion destination all year round, popular with nature lovers, recreational athletes and those seeking relaxation. In winter you will find a family ski area here and the rest of the year the Breitenberg is mainly in the hands of hiking enthusiasts who explore the mountain nature of the Allgäu on charming high-altitude trails. The excursion to the Reichenbachklamm starts at the valley station of the Breitenbergbahn, where there are enough parking spaces. From here you go past the BBB bistro and a small playground to the path marker that leads you to the Reichenbachklamm. A narrow path leads through the wild gorge, secured in places with rope fastenings and iron railings. Picturesque streams, moss-covered steep rocks, water cascades and a large, rushing waterfall provide diverse, attractive natural impressions in the Reichenbachklamm, which is located in the middle of a dense forest. Every now and then you pass viewpoints and benches that invite you to pause and take in the diverse impressions.

At the end of the gorge you go over a wide road into a forest, before soon getting back onto the wide road and following it uphill to the Aggenstein lift. Ambitious and sure-footed mountain hikers can climb the 1986 meter-high Aggenstein from here and look forward to a breathtaking view of the vast foothills of the Alps around Pfronten. Alternatively, simply follow the signs to the mountain station of the Breitenbergbahn. Here you have the opportunity to attempt an easier summit climb to the 1838 meter-high Breitenberg. A wide farm path on the southern slope leads in around three quarters of an hour to the Ostlerhütte, which is located in the summit area. Hungry excursionists are treated to Allgäuer delicacies on a sunny terrace while they can enjoy the beautiful view of the Pfronten valley and the magnificent mountains. Afterwards, refreshed, we head back to the mountain station of the Breitenbergbahn. Now you can either walk down the mountain in serpentines below the cable car, or let the lift take you comfortably down to the valley.

A wild gorge, breathtaking views of the foothills of the Alps and culinary delicacies in a cozy mountain hut - such a trip through the Reichenbachklamm can become an unforgettable trip through the beautiful Allgäu landscape. A hike to the Reichenbachklamm is definitely worthwhile and can only be warmly recommended.
