The beautiful Alpsee, which is one of the cleanest bodies of water in Germany, is a great destination during a holiday in Füssen-Weißensee due to its dream location below the royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. There are many picturesque waters around Füssen-Weißensee that are perfect for swimming or taking leisurely walks along the banks. A particularly attractive lake in the area is Alpsee, which belongs to the municipality of Schwangau and is located on the Austrian border. With its clean water, the Allgäu mountains all around and the proximity to the royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, the Alpsee offers a real postcard setting that will delight every Allgäu holidaymaker. At the Alpsee there is a bathing establishment, a boat rental where pedal and rowing boats can be rented, and the Museum of the Bavarian Kings, which is one of the most beautiful and modern museums in Germany and where you can learn a lot of interesting facts about the Bavarian kings and their castles.
An approximately 5 kilometer long circular path leads around the Alpsee, which is ideal for an easy hike for the whole family, which offers a variety of great impressions and which can of course also be combined with a visit to the royal castles. The starting and finishing point of a tour around the water is the parking lot at Alpsee in Hohenschwangau. If you want to visit the castles, you should first get entrance tickets here at the ticket center Hohenschwangau, as these are not available directly at the castles.
From the parking lot you go along Fürstenstrasse to Pindarplatz, which was considered one of the favorite places of the fairytale king Ludwig II and from which you have a great view over the Alpsee to the royal castles Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. As a result, the Alpsee circular route takes hiking enthusiasts around the beautiful body of water in 19. Century served the royal family as a fishing, rowing and bathing area.
