The highest mountain in the district Ostallgäu: The Hochplatte

The highest mountain in the district Ostallgäu: The Hochplatte

Around seven kilometers east of Füssen is the 2082 meter-high Ammergauer Hochplatte, the highest mountain in the Ostallgäu district. You can get to know this on a very attractive circular tour, which delights with fantastic views all the way to the Zugspitze. The mountain tour is a real highlight for all experienced mountain hikers with fitness, sure-footedness and a head for heights.

The mountain tour presented here on the 2082 meter high plateau in the Ammergau Alps is a real highlight for mountain hikers with good fitness and sure-footedness. On the summit level just before the summit there are a few smaller scrambles, for which the hikers are then rewarded with an unforgettable view over the wide Allgäu, which extends to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Zugspitze. The starting and finishing point of the tour, for which a total of approx. 5 Stunden should be planned, is the Ammerwaldalm in Reutte / Tyrol. The address for the navigation device is: Ammerwald, 6600 Reutte / Austria. Hiking enthusiasts should wear sturdy mountain boots and take enough provisions to fortify themselves along the way.

The excellently signposted climb initially takes hikers past the Ammerwaldalm on the left. Now turn right onto the hiking trail and walk along an idyllic stream to a pretty wooden bridge, which you cross. Past beautiful pools, which invite you to cool off on warm summer days, the route then goes relatively steeply uphill until you reach a crossroads after about an hour. On the tour presented here, hikers choose the small path on the left, which leads them through a fantastic mountain landscape up to the Roggentalsattel. Now we continue slightly to the right towards “fensterl”, an impressive hole in the rock that offers a fantastic view. The “E4, Hochplatte” path offers some challenging passages secured with steel cables that require a certain level of surefootedness and a head for heights. Once these have been mastered, hikers follow the grade to the summit cross and can enjoy the breathtaking view of the vast foothills of the Alps and countless mountains.

We return on the marked hiking trail in an easterly direction. Here, too, there are a few passages to overcome that are a little more demanding before the path becomes wider and the tour becomes more comfortable again. The hikers march towards Weitalpjoch and keep right towards Roggental / Ammerwald in order to return to the path already known from the ascent. They then follow this back to the starting point, while enjoying wonderful views along the way. If you want, you have the opportunity to extend the tour by hiking to the Weitalpspitze at Weitalpjoch and following the signs back to Ammerwaldalm.

After the hike, you can take a well-deserved stop at the Ammerwaldalm, which treats its visitors to home-made cakes and regional delicacies such as Kaierschmarrn, bacon dumplings or Bavarian sausage salad in cozy rooms. The hut welcomes its guests daily from May to October from 10:00 to 20:00 Uhr. However, it remains closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Experienced mountain hikers will have a lot of fun and get unforgettable holiday impressions on the varied tour to the Hochplatte presented here. By the way, the climbing areas along the way are not really difficult to tackle, they just require sure-footedness as they are slightly exposed.
