Great winter impressions on the Breitenberg
The 11,2 kilometer-long ski tour on the Breitenberg impresses with great winter impressions in an untouched snow landscape, wonderful panoramic views over the snow-covered Alpine foothills and rustic hut charm in the Ostlerhütte. The ski tour is not too strenuous, but in addition to the technical skills for ascent and descent, it also requires in-depth knowledge of avalanche science and orientation in open terrain.
The ski tour on the Breitenberg to the Ostlerhütte runs largely away from pistes and hiking trails through untouched nature. Of course, very special winter impressions are guaranteed, but tourers should also be familiar with avalanches and be able to orientate themselves in the open terrain without any problems. You should also take ski touring equipment with an avalanche transceiver, bivouac bag, GPS device, emergency cell phone, shovel and probe. Otherwise, the 11,2 kilometer-long tour is not particularly strenuous and can be completed without any problems with a bit of fitness. The tour starts at the hiking car park on Gräner Landstrasse. The journey there is via Pfronten and the Achtalstraße in the direction of Grän / Tannheimer Tal. After driving about 6,5 kilometers on this road, you pass a parking lot on the left and about 500 meters further there is a second parking lot on the right. Opposite here is the starting point of the tour.
At the starting point of the tour, tourers see the signposted hiking trail that leads to the Ostlerhütte on the Breitenberg. You initially follow the path in a northerly direction until you come to an unpaved forest path that branches off to the right in a left-hand bend. The route runs along this path in an easterly direction into a forest and then further north, across a path, to a small hut. Here, tourers simply continue to follow the path until they cross the prepared hiking trail to the Ostlerhütte. In places it is a bit steeper uphill. From the path the track continues north and then slightly west across an open area. The last part of the tour then leads along a hiking trail that is not groomed in winter in a north-easterly direction up to the Ostlerhütte, which is located at an altitude of 1838 on the Breitenberg. The entire tour can also simply be completed via the paved hiking trail that leads to the Ostlerhütte.
The markings on the side of the path make orientation much easier. During the entire tour, winter sports fans can look forward to wonderful natural impressions in a quiet snowy landscape. From the Ostlerhütte you can expect a dream view of the beautiful Pfronten valley and the snow-covered peaks of the Allgäuer, Tyrolean and Swiss mountains. Before setting off on their well-deserved descent, tourers can treat themselves to delicious snacks and warm hut meals at the Ostlerhütte. The culinary delicacies can be enjoyed in a rustic ambience with a view of the magnificent mountains. The departure is then possible in various ways. The easiest way is via the rolled forest road back to the parking lot.
