The Schlossparkradrunde is a five-star long-distance cycle path that runs through the beautiful Ostallgäu over a length of 219 kilometers. A very special long-distance cycle path here is the 219 kilometer-long “Schlossparkradrunde in Allgäu”, which was awarded 5 stars by the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) as one of only two routes in Germany. This top rating guarantees, among other things, a varied route with many scenic and architectural highlights along the way, excellent signage and many services and refreshments along the route. The castle park bike tour follows in the footsteps of the fairytale king Ludwig II, who shaped the area like no other, and allows you to experience the entire versatility and beauty of the Ostallgäu. The long-distance cycle path is divided into five stages, which can be completed by leisure cyclists without much effort and which guarantee unforgettable impressions on the bike.
The starting point of the Schlossparkradrunde, which runs mainly on easy-to-navigate cycle paths and low-traffic side streets, is the town of Füssen, the heart of which is the romantic old town with numerous historical buildings, cute cafés and small shops. The route of the long-distance cycle path leads over the turquoise Lech to Hohenschwangau, where the two world-famous royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau sit enthroned in a picturesque rocky landscape. In the immediate vicinity is the pretty Alpsee, which was the favorite bathing lake of Neuschwanstein builder King Ludwig II and which is still a popular bathing destination on warm days. The route leads along the Ammer Mountains through a picture-book landscape to the Bavarian “Pfaffenwinkel”, where near Steingaden the Rococo jewel Wieskirche is one of the most famous places of worship in Bavaria.
The route continues along former railway lines and side roads into the rural northern castle park, where cyclists can get to know small towns and villages that are worth seeing. They then drive south again along the Wertach, pass Sebastian Kneipp's hometown of Bad Wörishofen, and pass tranquil towns to the “brewery village” of Nesselwang. Accompanied by wonderful views of the Allgäu mountains, the route takes cyclists through Pfronten and past the Berger-Moos, through which an interesting moor nature trail leads. Before you reach the beautiful Weißensee and drive back to Füssen from here, you pass Germany's highest castle ruins on the Falkenstein, which once impressed King Ludwig II so much that he wanted to make a second Neuschwanstein out of it. Only his unforeseen death prevented this plan.
