The 21,5 km long Hopfensee panorama tour is an easy bike tour that leads to two of the most beautiful lakes around Füssen and delights with fantastic natural impressions and views of the foothills of the Alps. Connoisseurs, families and e-bike riders get to know the Riviera of the Allgäu on this leisurely bike tour and can take part in an unforgettable boat trip on the Forggensee, the largest lake in the Allgäu, in summer. The Hopfensee panorama circuit runs on largely flat terrain from Füssen through the beautiful Alpine foothills to Hopfen am See and on to Forggensee. Cyclists only have to overcome a short incline in the Hopfener Forest, otherwise the focus of this tour is on pure enjoyment of nature. Cyclists can look forward to the almost southern flair of the Allgäu Riviera and at the end of the tour take part in a boat trip on Lake Forggensee, which promises unforgettable holiday impressions.
The starting and finishing point of the 21,5 km long Hopfensee panorama tour is the Tourist Information in Füssen. The journey to Füssen is via the A7 motorway or the federal highways B16 and B17. Parking options in Füssen include the paid parking garage P5 “City/Sparkasse”, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the Tourist Information. Free parking is available in the P2 parking lot at the Federal Ice Hockey Performance Center. If you use public transport, you can reach the starting point of the tour from the Füssen train and bus station in around 5 minutes. On warm summer days there are several opportunities to swim along the Hopfensee and Forggensee, so you should pack your swimming gear in your cycling backpack. At least one and a half hours must be planned for the bike tour.
At the Füssener Tourist Information, cyclists get on their bikes and ride through the old town towards Hopfen am See. After leaving the city behind, a wonderful Alpine foothills landscape awaits you with green meadows, soothing mountain air and great views of the impressive Allgäu mountains. Shortly before the cyclists reach the Hopfensee circular route, they pass the Wiesbauer excursion restaurant, whose cozy beer garden is perfect for a short break with food and drink. This cycle tour along the Hopfensee circular route impresses with a variety of natural impressions. The flora and fauna here is very diverse and cyclists occasionally encounter coots, grebes and other water birds that nest on the banks of the Hopfensee. In the middle of this beautiful natural landscape is the Kneipp and climatic health resort Hopfen am See, which belongs to Füssen.
Here in Hopfen you can stroll along the waterfront promenade, which offers unique views over Lake Hopfen to the Allgäu mountains and the royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Cozy cafes and restaurants, small shops and many spa and wellness businesses have settled in Hopfen, which is also called the Allgäu Riviera due to its almost southern character. If you have the time and desire, stop by the Hopfensee outdoor pool on warm days and treat yourself to a little cooling down. With its gently sloping banks and relatively high water temperature, the Hopfensee is the ideal bathing area.
We recommend a short trip to the Hopfen castle ruins, which stand on a hill above the town. It is the oldest stone castle in the Allgäu, which was built for the first time in the 11. Century is mentioned in history books. Remains of walls up to three meters high have been preserved from the high medieval hilltop castle complex. After extensive renovation work, its basic structure is clearly visible again. Above all, the Hopfen castle ruins are a popular excursion destination because of the great views that are possible from here of the Tannheim Mountains and the Allgäu Alps. The Hopfensee panorama circuit runs from Hopfen via the Koppenkreuz and the small Faulensee to Osterreinen and the Forggensee. The largest lake in the Allgäu is a reservoir that was created in the 50 years of the last century and is used, among other things, to generate electricity and regulate the flooding of the Lech after the snow melts.
It only reaches its full water level in summer and then blends perfectly into the surrounding magnificent landscape. All sorts of water sports such as sailing, surfing and rowing are practiced on Lake Forggensee and the paths along its banks are ideal for beautiful hikes and bike rides. There are also several swimming areas and comfortable sunbathing areas on the banks. From the beginning of June to mid-October, two passenger ships sail on Lake Forggensee several times a day, stopping at various stops along the shore and also transporting bicycles. So the cyclists can board one of the ships with their bikes and return to Füssen. The boat trip on the Forggensee is one of the best known and most popular in all of Bavaria and it delights young and old with unique views over the water of the old town Füssen, the Allgäu mountains and the royal castles. Your physical well-being is well taken care of on board.
