The 9,3 kilometer-long Four Lakes Circuit is a very beautiful bike tour for connoisseurs, families and e-bike riders, which leads through the idyllic Faulenbacher Valley to four of the most famous lakes in the Allgäuer Königswinkel. The Four Lakes Circuit leads through this scenic gem, along the Obersee and Mittersee to the mysterious Alatsee, which has already been the setting for well-known Allgäu crime novels, to the Weißensee in the Füssen district of the same name.
The tour is easy and, at 9,3 kilometers, is quite short, making it ideal for families with children, connoisseurs and e-bike riders. Your starting and finishing point is the Morisse car park (P3) in Füssen. If you are on holiday by car, take the A7 or federal highways B310, B16 and B17 to Füssen and follow the parking guidance system to get to the starting point of the tour. From the Füssen train and bus station you can reach the Morisse car park in just 2 minutes on foot. At least 2 Stunden must be planned for this bike tour, which is particularly characterized by its outstanding landscape.
The Faulenbacher Valley in Füssen is also called the “Valley of the Senses” because the wonderful natural idyll here offers enjoyment for all the senses and is wonderful for finding peace and bringing body, mind and soul into harmony. Before you reach the legendary Alatsee, you pass the Obersee and Mittersee, where beautiful natural outdoor pools allow you to cool off on warm summer days. It's really easy to stay here when it's hot, as there are lots of shady spots. Finally, the cyclists reach the Alatsee, around which there are many myths and which is known from the Kluftinger crime novels. The actually beautiful mountain lake is also called the “bleeding lake” because its water has a slight red shimmer in special lighting conditions. The reason for this is a rare layer of purple sulfur bacteria at a depth of 15 meters, which has not yet been fully explored. Apparently mythical creatures and ghosts live on the banks, which often drag unwary hikers and cyclists into the depths. According to rumors, there is also a valuable treasure from the Nazi era at the bottom of the lake.
Despite its mystical character, Lake Alatsee is simply a very picturesque mountain lake with beautiful places on the banks that invite you to take a leisurely rest.
From Lake Alatsee it is possible to take a detour to the Salober-Alm, a popular mountain hut in the region. There you can enjoy delicious snacks and warm hut meals on a sun terrace, with a dream view over the wide foothills of the Alps. However, the quite steep path to the Salober Alm is not suitable for beginners and children. Everyone else should make this detour because it is definitely worth it. The Four Lakes Circuit runs from Alatsee on a leisurely descent to Weißensee in the climatic health resort of the same name, which is part of Füssen. The Weißensee is surrounded by wide green meadows, between which are embedded 23 small hamlets that form the town. Romantic spots on the banks allow for lovely picnics with a view of the mountains and the Weißensee outdoor pool invites you to have fun swimming on warm days. A ride on a pedal boat or rowing boat on the Weißensee also promises great experiences. The cyclists finally return to the starting point of this cycle tour via the Kobelhangweg and Kemptener Straße, which is particularly impressive with its beautiful landscape impressions.
