The 47,5 kilometer-long Alpsee-Plansee circuit is a great highlight for experienced mountain bikers who are looking for a sporting challenge. It also leads past attractive sights and cozy mountain huts that invite you to stop for a break every now and then.

It leads through a wonderful landscape and enchants with breathtaking views over the foothills of the Alps and attractive sights along the way, such as the world-famous castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. The start and finish point of the 47,5 km long mountain bike tour is the Tourist Information in Füssen. Füssen can be reached via the A7 motorway or the B16 and B17 federal highways. In the immediate vicinity of the Tourist Information there is the P5 “City/Sparkasse” car park, which is subject to a charge. The free parking lot P2 “Federal Performance Center for Ice Hockey” is only a 15 minute walk from the starting point of the tour.
Mountain bikers who use public transport in Allgäu can reach the tourist information from the Füssen train and bus station in around 5 minutes. Approximately 4 Stunden should be planned for the Alpsee-Plansee circuit. It is recommended that bikers take a helmet, a sufficient supply of water and some money for a stop at the hut.
The Alpsee-Plansee tour begins at the tourist information center in the Füssen city center, which has a romantic character with numerous buildings from the Middle Ages, cute shops and cozy places to stop for refreshments. The mountain bikers follow Sebastianstrasse towards Schwangau and cross the wildly romantic Lech on a bike bridge that runs parallel to the König-Ludwig bridge. Then keep right and drive through Alterschrofen to Hohenschwangau, the village of royal castles. The castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, which stand opposite each other in the middle of a picture-book landscape, are among the most famous and popular sights in Germany. Every year, almost 2 millions of people from all over the world come here to marvel at the magnificent royal buildings and immerse themselves in the romantic fairytale world of Ludwig II. However, mountain bikers shouldn't be put off by the hustle and bustle of tourists, because the tour then leads through quiet mountain landscapes where pure natural idyll reigns. The mountain bikers first pass the bus stop below the beautiful Marienbrücke to get to Bleckenaustraße, which leads up to the Bleckenau mountain inn.
The climb to Bleckenau, which is at an altitude of 1167 in the Ammergebirge nature reserve, is steep, but leads through a dream landscape that offers great views of the castles, mountains and lakes in the area. The Bleckenau mountain inn was built between 1846 and 1850 on behalf of the Bavarian King Maximilian II, who gave it as a gift to his wife Marie. It later served as a hunting lodge for her son, Fairy Tale King Ludwig II, before being converted into 20. Century became a popular stopover destination in the region. The mountain bikers are served a hearty snack or a delicious warm hut meal here before they continue the tour. This then leads to the highest point of the Alpsee-Plansee circuit at 1491 meters in altitude. Here is the hunter's hut, where the alpine shepherd in charge of the surrounding pastures offers small snacks and cool drinks in summer, which are sure to be gladly accepted after the exertion of the climb.
We then continue along the Schützensteig towards Plansee. This section is considered challenging; Bikers may have to push their bikes over short stretches here. On the following section, which leads over the Kuhklause to Urisee near Reutte, the bike has to be carried through a gorge. Really sporty mountain bikers can take a detour to Dürrenbergalm between Kuhklause and Urisee, which is known for its delicious hut dishes and a cozy sun terrace. The Alpsee-Plansee circuit continues from Pflach over the Kniepass to Schluxen. Here, too, challenges await the mountain bikers before the tour comes to a moderate end. The last section leads past the Schwangauer grid and the Alpsee up Fürstenstraße to Hohenschwangau. The tour now follows the same route as the way there. The mountain bikers ride on the cycle path through Alterschrofen and cross the cycle bridge that leads over the Lech.
Finally you reach Sebastianstrasse, which takes you back to the starting point, the Füssener Tourist Information. After the strenuous tour, mountain bikers can relax in one of the cafés and restaurants in the city center or stroll a bit through the old town and look at the old houses, historic churches and other sights here.
