A comfortable winter hike
In addition to the Weißensee, the picturesque Hopfensee is also one of the most beautiful bodies of water around Füssen. In the cold season, you can get to know the Hopfensee on a leisurely winter hike, which requires no effort and inspires with many varied impressions.
The Hopfensee, which is approximately 2,1 kilometers long and covers an area of 1,94 square kilometers, is a popular leisure destination at any time of the year. In summer, the lake attracts bathers, water sports enthusiasts and those seeking relaxation who go on leisurely hikes or bike rides along its banks. Even in the cold season, a trip to Lake Hopfensee is worthwhile, for example to enjoy the many varied impressions on a great winter hike. The approximately 6,8 kilometer long tour around the lake does not require any special effort and is therefore also very suitable for families with children and seniors. It takes just under two hours and always runs along the bank on completely cleared paths. The starting and finishing point is the Hopfen lido; Theoretically, the hike can start anywhere around the Hopfensee. In addition to sturdy shoes, winter-proof clothing is recommended.

On a hill there is a charming view of the striking Aggenstein and the Breitenberg. If you are not afraid of a steeper climb, you can take a detour up to the Hopfen castle ruins, the oldest stone castle in the Allgäu. Remains of walls up to three meters high have been preserved from the high medieval hilltop castle complex and the view from here of the vast foothills of the Alps with the Ammergau Alps and Tannheim Mountains is truly phenomenal.
The Hopfensee is a popular destination for ice skaters in winter, who do their turns here in front of the great mountain panorama. The Allgäu cult sport of curling is also often practiced on the frozen lake. The locals are happy to show tourists the secrets of this fun sport. Numerous benches along the lake invite you to take a break and offer the opportunity to thoroughly enjoy the fascinating winter landscape here at Hopfensee.
