By bike through the southern Ostallgäu

The Southern Ostallgäu round is a 86 kilometer long racing bike tour that is ideal for beginners to get a taste of the cycling paradise around Füssen. The tour only has easy to moderate climbs and runs mostly comfortably along meadows, forests and small villages through the beautiful foothills of the Alps.

The cross-border racing bike area around Füssen really leaves nothing to be desired. In the middle of a picture-book landscape, numerous leisurely tours on low-traffic side roads and cycle paths, as well as challenging mountain stages, are possible. A wonderful tour for beginners is the 86 km long southern Ostallgäu circuit, which offers easy to medium climbs as well as some scooter sections and brisk descents. It runs mostly on quiet side roads through the eastern Allgäu and leads past green meadows and forests as well as tranquil villages where time seems to have stood still. The starting and finishing point of this tour, which takes around three and a half hours, is the Füssener Tourist Information. If you travel to Füssen by car, you can park your car in the free P1 Festplatz car park on Kemptener Straße. From the Füssen train and bus station, the starting point can be reached in about 2 minutes on foot. It is recommended to complete the Southern Ostallgäu circuit between April and September.

The racing cyclists set off in front of the Füssener Tourist Information in an easterly direction, cross the Lech and cycle via Altenschrofen to Schwangau to the foot of the royal castles, which sit enthroned here in a picturesque mountain landscape. The route then continues past the idyllic Bannwaldsee, via small towns such as Halblech, Unterreuthen and Prem to Lechbruck. Tranquil villages and hamlets where time seems to have stood still, as well as the green meadows typical of the Allgäu characterize this first part of the tour. The cyclists continue north on the Lechwiesenstraße before the route turns west and leads via Bernbeuren to the Auerberg, which is circled on this tour. On the Auerberg-Wertach circuit you can also climb the mountain with its 14 %-like slope and then enjoy a great view over the foothills of the Alps from the viewing platform on the roof of St. George's Church.

From Remnatsried the racing bike tour runs back south towards Füssen. After the cyclists have reached Roßhaupten via Unterbuchen, Hofen and Steinbach, a small foretaste of possible mountain stages on other tours awaits them with the Sulzberg and the Senkele. But if you already feel like a tough climb, you can drive up to Alpe Beichelstein just before Hopferau to stop for food and drink and enjoy the great view of the mountains. The climb is really demanding at over 20 %. From Hopferau, the southern Ostallgäu circuit leads via Lehern back to the Weißensee, which, with its quiet spots on the banks, is perfect for taking another break before heading back to Füssen. On warm summer days you can of course also swim wonderfully in the Weißensee.

Wonderful landscape impressions and a leisurely, yet varied route make the Southern Ostallgäu circuit an ideal racing bike tour for beginners. It is also ideal as a warm-up lap before more demanding tours in the cross-border Füssener racing bike area. Lots of fun on the bike is guaranteed on this tour!
