Cycling tour Allgäu: holiday fun on the bike

The “Cycling Classic” stage tour, which is approximately 40 kilometer long, largely runs along the route of the Allgäu cycle circuit, a long-distance cycle route founded by 2013 and awarded four stars by the ADFC as a quality route. The tour presented here leads through the wonderful Allgäu Alpine foothills landscape around Füssen and guarantees a great holiday bike trip that will be remembered fondly for a long time.

The 2013 Allgäu opened cycle tour leads approximately 450 kilometers long through the Allgäu, past numerous scenic and architectural attractions. The long-distance cycle path is a circular tour in which the direction of travel is not specified and cyclists can join at any time. The Allgäu cycle tour is divided into twelve adventure worlds, with Füssen and the surrounding region belonging to the so-called castle park. The approx. The start and finish point of the tour, for which you should plan about three hours of travel time and for which only a certain level of fitness is required, is the Tourist Information in Füssen.

You get on your bike at the tourist information center in the picturesque Füssen old town and first follow the signs for the Allgäu cycle route to Forggensee. This reservoir, which is the largest lake in the Allgäu, only reaches its full water level in summer and is then a very popular leisure destination that invites you to enjoy numerous activities on and around the water. As you cycle along the bank towards Osterreinen, enjoy the wonderful views over the turquoise water to the fairytale castle Neuschwanstein, which sits enthroned in the idyllic mountain landscape near Schwangau. You pass lush green lawns and bathing areas until you turn off the course of the Allgäu cycle route at Osterreinen and leave the Forggensee shore to cycle to Rieden. From here the tour takes you to the dreamy Faulensee, which lies in the middle of the forest and on whose shore a cozy hut invites you to take a break. Enjoy homemade cakes or warm Allgäuer delicacies on the beautiful sun terrace before you continue your journey. The Faulensee is of course also ideal for a jump into the cool water on warm days.

The route then continues through the Hopfener Forest and along the Senkele mountain range to Seeg. The only somewhat strenuous climb on this tour awaits you on this section of the trail. You can then relax at the Schwaltenweiher near Seeg, which impresses with an Alpine panorama straight out of a picture book. It is not for nothing that Seeg and the Schwaltenweiher are often referred to as the front seat of the Alps. Take a break here, go for a swim, play beach volleyball or rent a boat to unwind on the lake. From the Schwaltenweiher, the tour then leads past the Weizern mountain cheese dairy to Eisenberg, where you rejoin the route of the Allgäu cycle tour. Finally, following the signs along beautiful alpine meadows, we return to Füssen.

Varied routes and lots of natural beauty along the way make the “cycling classic” stage a real holiday pleasure. This bike tour is really fun and is just the thing to really enjoy the beauty of the Allgäu foothills of the Alps.
