For racing cyclists: The Pfaffenwinkel circuit

The racing bike area around Füssen in Allgäu offers numerous great routes for every fitness level, which run through the wonderful foothills of the Alps. One of the most attractive tours for racing cyclists with good endurance is the 129 kilometer-long Pfaffenwinkel circuit, which leads deep into the Upper Bavarian foothills of the Alps. In addition to fantastic natural impressions, racing cyclists can also look forward to numerous sights along the way on this tour.

Racing cyclists who are in good shape and are not afraid of tough climbs should not miss the 129 kilometer-long Pfaffenwinkel circuit on their Allgäu holiday. This delightful tour, which leads from Füssen into the Upper Bavarian foothills of the Alps, delights with wonderful landscape impressions and famous sights along the way, such as the royal castles, the Wieskirche and the Wessobrunn Monastery. The Pfaffenwinkel circuit, for which approximately 6 Stunden must be planned, runs largely on side roads with little traffic. However, heavier traffic volumes can be expected in places on weekends and during holiday periods. The starting and finishing point of this racing bike tour is the Tourist Information in Füssen. If you are traveling by car in the Allgäu, you can park your car in the P1 Festplatz car park on Kemptener Straße or in the P5 “City / Festplatz” car park. From the Füssener train and bus station you can reach the Tourist Information, where you can get a detailed description of this tour, in around two minutes on foot. It is recommended to complete the Pfaffenwinkel circuit during the racing bike season between April and October.

The route of the Pfaffenwinkel circuit first makes a southern swing from Füssen to the foot of the royal castles in Hohenschwangau. The two world-famous castles Neuschweinstein and Hohenschwangau stand directly opposite each other in a picturesque mountain landscape. Both magnificent buildings can be visited daily in the form of a half-hour guided tour. The tour then continues in a northeasterly direction, through places like Halblech, Trauchgau and Fronreiten, to Pfaffenwinkel in Upper Bavaria. Near Steingaden is the Rococo-style pilgrimage church on the Wies - Wieskirche for short - which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is magnificently furnished. It is definitely worth visiting this place of worship.

As the tour progresses, the racing cyclists reach deeper and deeper into the Upper Bavarian Pfaffenwinkel via Wildsteig and the striking Echelsbacher Bridge, which leads over the Ammer. Before reaching Wessobrunn, a particularly attractive section of the tour awaits cyclists between Schönberg and Peißenberg, alternating between longer climbs and quick descents. As with the entire Pfaffenwinkel tour, the beautiful Allgäu landscape also contributes to making this tour a real pleasure for all the senses. In Wessobrunn it is worth taking a look at the monastery, which is located in 9. It was first mentioned in a document in the century. At Apfeldorf the tour reaches its most northwestern point; Then it slowly goes back towards Füssen along small towns such as Kinsau, Schwabbruck, Tannenberg and Bernbeuren. From Roßhaupten, racing cyclists cycle along the western bank of the largest Allgäu lake, the Forggensee, and can once again enjoy wonderful views over the water to the Allgäu mountains. In summer there is even the possibility of getting on one of the passenger ships that sail on Lake Forggensee several times a day with your bike and completing the last part of the tour.

Beautiful landscape impressions, world-famous sights along the way and a varied route - the Pfaffenwinkel circuit guarantees racing cyclists in good shape an eventful and successful day on the bike!
