A little sightseeing in the beautiful Füssen old town and then varied natural impressions in the Allgäuer Königswinkel before returning to the Weißensee - the approximately 9 kilometer long hike presented here guarantees a completely successful holiday trip. Along the route you can look forward to sights such as the impressive High Castle and the St. Mang Monastery as well as the mysterious Alatsee. This tour, which takes about three hours, starts at the Tourist Information in Füssen. For example, you can easily get to the starting point from Weißensee with the 71 bus line.
You start at the Füssener Tourist Information, cross the main road and walk on Reichenstraße through the pedestrian zone to the city fountain. The Füssen old town enchants with narrow, winding streets along which there are worth seeing Gothic houses, cute shops and cozy cafes and restaurants. There are also some artistic fountains and small medieval chapels to discover here. At the city fountain, keep half left and continue towards the town hall and shortly before turn right to Magnusplatz. Between the former Benedictine monastery of St. Mang and Füssen's landmark, the late Gothic High Castle, there is a gate through which you can reach the Baumgarten city park. Beforehand, it is advisable to take a closer look at the monastery and/or castle. The High Castle, which is one of the best-preserved medieval castle complexes in Bavaria, is particularly worth seeing.
There are artistic illusion paintings on the facades and impressive rooms await you inside, such as the magnificent knight's hall with its painted carved ceiling. Art lovers can look forward to the branch gallery of the Bavarian State Painting Collections in the castle, which exhibits works by Allgäu artists and rare sculptures.
You then walk through the Baumgarten, cross a small bridge and reach the lower Kobelweg. Now you go through picture-perfect nature to the Hahnenkopfweg, where you ignore the first turn to Weißensee and instead walk left to Zwei-Seen-Blick. This vantage point provides a great view of the Alatsee and Weißensee as well as the surrounding foothills of the Alps. The mysterious Alatsee is reached a little later on this beautiful hike. The mountain lake, around which many regional myths are based, is probably already known to some as the setting for a Allgäu crime novel that topped the bestseller lists for a long time. Once on the riverside path, turn right and a little later follow Saloberstrasse to the turnoff to Weißensee. You finally walk through a shady forest down to Weißensee. As you follow the riverside path in a westerly direction, you can enjoy the wonderful natural scenery until you finally arrive at the outdoor swimming pool. This is where this charming hike ends, which combines enjoyment of nature with sightseeing and is sure to be a hit with young and old alike.
