Hiking fun in the Allgäuer and Tyrolean border area around Weißensee

The “Change of Borders” tour is a scenic circular hike that leads from Füssen across the Austrian border to the beautiful Alatsee on the edge of the Faulenbacher Valley. A varied route and many wonderful natural impressions make the hike, which in summer can also be crowned with swimming in one of the lakes along the route, a real holiday pleasure.

Allgäu holidaymakers in Füssen-Weißensee who want to enjoy nature and have many beautiful impressions in the Allgäu and Tyrolean mountain landscape should not miss the “Change of Borders” tour presented here. The approximately 15 kilometer long hike leads from Füssen to the Alatsee and through the idyllic Faulenbacher Valley back to the starting point. You should plan on walking for around four hours for this tour, which is moderately demanding due to some inclines. The parking lot at the spa park in Bad Faulenbach, which belongs to Füssen, is a good starting and finishing point.

A real highlight awaits you right at the beginning of this tour, as you hike to the Lechfall in Bad Faulenbach and experience how rushing masses of water plunge an impressive twelve meters into the depths. The König-Max-Steg, which runs over the waterfall, offers an excellent view of this natural spectacle. At the Lechfall you take the Ländeweg, which then takes you across the Austrian border. Wonderful landscape impressions and views of the foothills of the Alps make the hike very entertaining. At the Unterberg, turn sharply right and hike along trails that sometimes rise and fall steeply to Faulenbach. This section of the path requires some concentration and sure-footedness. We continue right along the Faulenbach up to the beautiful Alatsee, which lies on German soil on the edge of the Faulenbacher Valley.

The Alatsee, shrouded in many regional myths, is surrounded by pretty mountainside forests and is a really beautiful spot that is suitable for a longer break. Benches on the banks invite you to enjoy the panorama and on warm days the water is of course also wonderful for a jump into the cool water. A Kneipp pool on the bank also provides refreshments. The tour takes you clockwise around the lake to the other side of the valley. There are information boards and interactive stations along the way that will introduce you to the local birdlife. You can also learn interesting facts about Allgäu's wildlife while hiking.

The last part of the tour finally leads through the scenic Faulenbacher Valley back to Füssen. Lots of greenery, small bodies of water and colorful flower meadows make the Faulenbacher Valley something like the natural spa park Füssens. Various experience stations such as a Kneipp meadow and a barefoot and balancing path also enable wellness in harmony with nature. On the way through the valley you will pass Obersee and Mittersee, whose natural pools are popular excursion destinations in summer. Treat yourself to a little cooling off in the lakes or make yourself comfortable on one of the lawns, which also have shady spots. You then return to the starting point through the small park in Bad Faulenbach.

The “Change of Borders” tour is a varied hike that offers a variety of attractive holiday impressions and is a pleasure, especially in summer.
