A very attractive Nordic walking tour in the area around Füssen-Weißensee is the three lakes route, which is approximately 10 kilometers long. This leads past three picturesque lakes through the idyllic Faulenbacher Valley, which offers the best enjoyment of nature and optimal conditions for relaxation.
The gentle endurance sport Nordic walking is an ideal holiday activity because it is easy to learn, promotes health and well-being and is suitable for young and old alike. The best thing about Nordic walking, however, is that you get to be outside in the fresh air and get to know new landscapes. The approximately 10 kilometer long Three Lakes Route presented here takes holidaymakers from Füssen-Weißensee to the tranquil Faulenbacher Valley, which is also part of Füssen. In this natural oasis, everything is designed for relaxation and enjoyment of the landscape, so you can let your thoughts wander and relax while walking. The start and finish point of the round, which takes around two and a half hours, is the parking lot at the mini golf course in Bad Faulenbach. Due to some climbs, this tour is recommended for experienced Nordic walking fans who are in good physical condition.
The secluded Faulenbacher Valley, with its natural idyll, offers the best conditions to shake off the stress of everyday life and recharge your batteries. There is a lot of greenery here, pretty mountainside forests, enchanting flower meadows and six small lakes that are lined up one after the other. You start the tour by walking north on Alatseestrasse. After a few hundred meters, turn left onto “Am Kobel” street, which flows into Unteren Kobelweg. This then takes you through the quiet Faulenbacher Valley towards Alatsee. Before you reach this mountain lake, expect a few climbs that will test your fitness. After around 5 kilometers you have arrived at the Alatsee, which forms the end of the valley and is located directly on the Austrian border. The lake gained national fame as the setting for a Allgäus crime thriller with the iconic Inspector Kluftinger.
There are a number of myths and legends surrounding the Alatsee: mythical creatures and ghosts are said to be up to mischief here and a valuable gold treasure from the Third Reich is said to be hidden on the Seegrund, which no one has yet found. First and foremost, the Alatsee is a beautiful mountain lake that invites you to relax and dream. In summer you can also swim wonderfully in it. You circle the water counterclockwise and are on a recently created bird trail, which uses several display cases to introduce interesting bird species that are native to the region. After the circumnavigation, follow the former fitness trail through the Faulenbacher Valley to the Obersee and Mittersee. The natural pools of the two lakes are popular leisure destinations in summer. There are comfortable sunbathing areas, separate non-swimmer areas, swimming docks, changing rooms, toilets and refreshments.
At Obersee it's worth taking a short break at the Kneipp spa and treating yourself to a bit of wellness. The famous Allgäu priest Sebastian Kneipp made the water cure popular and his health teachings are more in demand today than ever. After you have left the Mittersee behind you, it is not far to the starting point of the tour on Alatseestrasse.
Enjoy nature at its finest and lots of variety along the route – the Three Lakes Route offers a lot of fun and is an excellent way to ensure that you actively relax and gain new energy during your holiday in Weißensee.
