A highlight for mountain bikers is the approximately 41 kilometer long suspension bridge bike tour, which leads from Nesselwang through the picturesque Wertach Valley. The cycling tour impresses with a varied route, beautiful landscape impressions and great views of the Allgäu mountains. In summer, some bodies of water along the route invite you to cool off.
The suspension bridge bike tour through the idyllic Wertach Valley is named because an adventurous suspension bridge is crossed along the way. But that is by no means the only attraction that this approximately 41 kilometer long tour has to offer. Varied field and forest paths, fantastic views of lush green meadows and magnificent peaks as well as some beautiful lakes along the route, which allow for the finest swimming fun in summer, make the cycling tour a real highlight for mountain bikers. The start and finish point of the tour, for which you should plan a good three hours, is the welcome point at the church in Nesselwang. There are free parking spaces nearby at the Alpspitz bathing center.
You get on your bike at the welcome area and first head towards the church, then turn left into “Steinach” street shortly before the church. Keep slightly left, cross a small bridge and follow the gently ascending Maria-Rainer-Straße. After you have passed a cemetery and a market garden, cycle straight on into the Wertachtal. The tour continues along the Wertach River to another bridge, behind which a small path leads across a meadow. You follow this path, which soon becomes a little wider and takes you to Bachtel. Here you turn right to drive through the village. After a few kilometers a small gravel road branches off to the right towards Wildberg. You take this road and after about two kilometers turn left towards Görisried. After a few kilometers you will reach a tarred road which you follow to the right towards Wildberg. Now after about a kilometer you will come to the junction where you go left to the suspension bridge.
The picturesque Wertach Valley offers you varied landscape impressions and wonderful views of wide meadows, wooded mountain slopes and magnificent Allgäu peaks. You have to carry your bike when descending into the Wertachtal and crossing the suspension bridge. This is followed by a steep climb to Geigers and here you cycle to the right on a dirt road in a southerly direction until you reach the Nesselwang/Marktoberdorf road. Follow this a little bit in a southerly direction and then turn left to Holzleuten. After you have crossed the town, turn right to Treffisried, through the town and then turn left twice in a row to Aleuthen. From here we continue to the tranquil honey village of Seeg. Follow the main road to the junction on the right to Aufmberg and Seeleuten.
Now follows a descent to the dreamy Schwaltenweiher, which invites you to cool off in the summer. The tour runs along the south bank to Goldhasen, where you turn sharp left to go along Neuweiher via Dederles to Attlesee. In the town follow the signs to Attlesee, another very beautiful bathing water. You turn left here and cycle to the Kögelweiher, which you pass on the right to turn off to Schicken. From here it is not far to the starting point of this charming cycle tour, which has many great holiday impressions to offer.
