Allgäu holidaymakers from Füssen-Weißensee can look forward to lots of beautiful impressions on the circular route from Hopfen to the dreamy Faulensee. There is a cozy hut at Faulensee that spoils its visitors with delicious Allgäu delicacies and on the way back the tour leads to the Hopfen castle ruins, a popular excursion destination in the region. Varied natural impressions in the quiet, enchanted forest round off the excursion successfully. The approximately 8 kilometer long tour has an easy character and is therefore also suitable for families with older children and sprightly seniors. It takes around two and a half hours and its starting and finishing point is the Tourist Information in Hopfen am See.
First, go down to the busy waterfront promenade in Hopfen opposite the tourist information office. There you will find a fantastic view over Lake Hopfensee, the Allgäu mountains and the world-famous royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Keep left and cross the street in front of the bus shelter and then walk along the Kirchgässchen to Dotzenwangweg. It's worth taking a look at the Church of St. Peter and Paul before continuing to follow the signs to Faulensee. Through meadows and forest you reach this dreamy body of water, which can only be reached on foot or by bike. It is therefore idyllic here and you can let your thoughts wander wonderfully and undisturbed.
On the banks of the water is Raini's Faulenseehütte, which treats its guests to homemade cakes, soups and stews as well as a variety of regional dishes on a beautiful sun terrace or in the cozy parlor. Coffee, beers, wines, soft drinks and ice cream are also available at the hut, which is open Tuesday to Sunday between 10 and 20 Uhr. Occasionally, special events such as hut evenings take place here, where Bavarian music groups ensure an exuberant atmosphere and lots of fun. In such a wonderfully located Allgäuer hut you can really have a good time. Behind the Faulenseehütte, continue left until you reach the crossroads, where you turn left again into the Bannwald.
You hike through the forest to a fork in the road, where you first turn right and then immediately left to reach the Hopfen castle ruins. From the oldest stone castle in the Allgäu, which is in the 14. In the 19th century, which served as the official residence of the Füssen provost, remains of walls up to three meters high have been preserved. The view from the ruins of the Tannheim mountains and the surrounding Alpine foothills is spectacular. After enjoying the view, take the narrow path that leads from here down to Hopfen am See.
