The Allgäu cycle route is a modern long-distance cycle route classified with 4 stars, which runs for 450 kilometers through the entire Allgäu. Unlike conventional long-distance cycle routes, the Allgäu cycle route does not run from point A to B, but rather offers cyclists the opportunity to put together the route themselves using a modular system. This results in various variants, shortcut options and connections to other long-distance cycle paths such as the Iller cycle path and the Bodensee-Königssee cycle path. Of course, your own fitness level can always be taken into account when planning a tour along the Allgäu cycle route. This long-distance cycle path offers ideal routes for both leisure cyclists and ambitious cyclists. It has been divided into different experience rooms that aim to give cyclists an understanding of the different history and culture of the respective region.
Füssen is the center of the cycling theme area “Schlosspark” and here everything revolves around the Bavarian kings and their wonderful fairytale castles. The tour presented here, which connects two stages of the cycling circuit with a north-western loop, is ideal for getting to know the Allgäu cycling circuit and the Castle Park themed area. The tour lasts approximately 3 Stunden and its starting and finishing point is the Füssener Tourist Information. Parking is available nearby. From the Füssener train and bus station it is only a 5 minute walk to the Tourist Information. In summer, it is advisable to pack your swimming gear in your cycling backpack, as there are several beautiful swimming lakes along the route.
The classic cycling stage initially runs from the Füssener Tourist Information in a northerly direction to Forggensee, the largest lake in the Allgäu. The consistently good signage of the Allgäu cycle route, which is classified with 4 stars, leads cyclists along the western bank of Lake Forggensee to Osterreinen. In between you can enjoy wonderful views of the world-famous royal castle Neuschwanstein and the magnificent Allgäu mountains. At Osterreinen, the cyclists temporarily leave the cycle tour and cycle through Rieden to the small Faulensee, which, like the other lakes along the way, is ideal for swimming in summer. The route continues through the picturesque Hopfener Forest and south under the Senkele ridge to Seeg. From here the cyclists go to Schwaltenweiher, the most northwestern point of the tour.
From the Schwaltenweiher, the cycling classic stage leads back towards Füssen. Before the cyclists reach Eisenberg, where they can orient themselves again using the Allgäu cycle route signs, they have the opportunity to visit the Weizern mountain cheese dairy, which is located in the middle of a green meadow in the foothills of the Alps. Here you can enjoy delicious snacks with homemade Allgäuer cheese. In July and August, the cheese dairy offers parents and their children guided cheese dairy tours every Monday and Tuesday at 13:30 Uhr, which promise interesting impressions. The classic cycling stage leads from Eisenberg via Hopferau to Hopfensee, one of the warmest Alpine foothill lakes. Here on the Allgäu Riviera, as the town of Hopfen, which belongs to Füssen, is also called due to its southern flair, cyclists can relax and swim again before returning to the starting point of this charming bike tour.
