The Forggensee panoramic trail

The Forggensee panoramic trail

The Forggensee Panorama Trail is a beautiful themed trail that runs along the banks of the largest Allgäuer lake and offers fantastic views of the castles and mountains of the Allgäuer Königswinkel. Along the approximately five kilometer long route, which is also suitable for fans of Nordic walking, there are information boards that provide information about the history and origins of Lake Forggensee.

With an area of approximately 15 square kilometers, Forggensee is the largest lake in the Allgäu. The body of water is not of natural origin, but rather a reservoir created in the 1950s that only reaches its full water level from June to October. Then Lake Forggensee offers the best conditions for swimming, surfing, sailing and water skiing. The riverside paths are popular all year round, where hikers and cyclists can enjoy the wonderful Allgäu landscape. The approximately 5 kilometer long panoramic path presented here also offers lots of beautiful impressions on Lake Forggensee. Due to the low level of difficulty, the tour on this route is ideal for families with children and seniors. Nordic walking fans can also use the route. The starting and finishing point is the center of Rieden am Forggensee. From Füssen-Weißensee you can reach Rieden in just a few minutes by car via the B16. Parking spaces are available there, for example, at the Tourist Information on Lindenweg 4. You should plan about an hour and a half for the hike. There are several places to stop for refreshments along the way.

From the starting point, follow Osterreiner Straße to Osterreinen to Café Maria, which is located directly on the banks of Lake Forggensee. With its water that shimmers from turquoise to blue depending on the lighting conditions and the magnificent Allgäu mountains all around, Lake Forggensee really exudes the best holiday feeling. You walk along the bank along the Via Claudia Augusta path towards Füssen and can enjoy the wonderful natural impressions along the way. Several benches along the route invite you to take in the wonderful atmosphere at Lake Forggensee.

After you have passed the Füssener rowing club, a path branches off to the right that leads you up to the “Gsteig”. Now walk a bit along the main road and at the turnoff to Erkenbollingen take the road to the right up to “Blaick”. This great vantage point offers an unforgettable view over Lake Forggensee to the Allgäuer Königswinkel with its meadows, castles and mountains. Here you have the opportunity to take impressive holiday photos. The information boards here provide interesting information about the history of the creation of Lake Forggensee. For example, you will learn that the body of water is important for flood control on the Lech after the snow melts in spring. Via St. Urban and through the underpass of the B16 it finally goes back to Rieden to the starting point.

From June to mid-October, two passenger ships sail on Lake Forggensee several times a day, inviting you on small and large tours and stopping at several stops on the shore. During this period you can wonderfully combine the hike with a boat trip on Lake Forggensee, which offers very special impressions. The boat trip on Lake Forggensee is considered one of the most beautiful in Bavaria and is a great pleasure for young and old. Your physical well-being is of course very well taken care of on board.

A hike on the Forggensee Panorama Trail guarantees beautiful views of the Ostallgäu and its attractions. This leisurely round trip is definitely worth it when on holiday in Füssen-Weißensee.
