The themed hiking trail for small GEOborderGÄNGER

During their holiday in Füssen-Weißensee, hiking enthusiasts can get to know the exciting GEO GrenzGÄNGER themed hiking trail, which leads through the wonderful Allgäu and Tyrolean landscape and presents the region's extraordinary geology at various adventure stations. For those who find the approximately 15 kilometer route too long, there is a family-friendly short version: the small GEO GrenzGÄNGER. This tour also offers interesting facts about the geology of the Allgäu Alps and of course the best enjoyment of nature and great views of the mountains.

Discover the magical Allgäu mountain landscape on a hike on the small GEO GrenzGÄNGER, which is approximately 6 kilometer long, and learn all sorts of interesting facts about the geological highlights of the area. This shorter version of the approximately 15 kilometer long GEOborderGÄNGERS can also be easily mastered by children from 6 Jahren and promises, in addition to wonderful natural impressions, a lot of fun and interesting knowledge about the different rocks in the region as well as their mining and use. You can choose whether you start the well-signposted theme trail at the Ziegelwies Forest Adventure Center in Füssen or at the Schwansee car park in Schwangau. We describe the route from Schwangau here.

Right next to the parking lot at the picturesque Schwansee, an adventure station tells you what the “royal quarry” is all about. Then follow the signs towards Alterschrofen, hike uphill through an idyllic forest and reach a viewing point that offers a great view of the fairytale castle Neuschwanstein, which stands here in the beautiful mountain landscape. A little later you reach the Schwangau lime kiln and find out how lime was burned in earlier times. Immediately afterwards you will pass one of the many quarries that was used for lime mining and continue on into the so-called Erlisholz to the next station, which will explain to you how a cave was created. We then go through the beautiful mountain landscape, which always delights with varied natural impressions, to Füssen.

As you continue, it's worth stopping by the Ziegelwies Forest Experience Center, where an exhibition room is dedicated to the geology of the area and presents it using display boards and models. You now follow the geopath towards Füssener Calvary, a Way of the Cross with several artistic station chapels along the way, which were built to commemorate the suffering of Jesus. Feel free to take the short detour to the summit of the Calvary, for which you will be rewarded with a great view of the foothills of the Alps and the Füssen old town. The GEOborderGÄNGERS route branches off towards Hutlersberg, where an adventure rest area specially built for the geopath awaits you. Various play and sound elements made of stone promise a lot of fun, especially for little hiking enthusiasts. Take a break here before heading back towards Schwansee.

The last experience station on this interesting themed trail highlights the meteorite impact at Neuschwanstein Castle, which occurred in April 2002 . Finally, it goes back to the Schwansee car park along the Schwansee, which is located in a protected landscape area with remarkable flora and fauna. Behind you lies a leisurely tour that successfully combines enjoyment of the landscape with exciting knowledge about the geology of the area. For holidaymakers in Füssen-Weißensee, this hike, which is suitable for the whole family, is definitely highly recommended.
