The beer-cheese hiking trail is a themed trail approximately 2,9 km long that connects the Lehern dairy in Hopferau with the Mariahilfer brewhouse in Speiden. The hiking tour impresses with wonderful landscape impressions and offers the opportunity to learn a lot of interesting facts about beer and cheese and of course to enjoy the two delicacies.
The easy hike on the Beer and Cheese Trail in Ostallgäu promises a fun and educational excursion that offers scenic enjoyment and culinary delicacies. Hiking enthusiasts can learn a lot of interesting facts about beer and cheese from information boards along the way and can watch the production of these two delicious foods in the Lehern dairy and the Mariahilfer brewhouse and also taste them extensively. The themed trail, which is approximately 2,9 km long and can be completed in around three quarters of an hour, does not require any effort and is therefore also suitable for seniors and families with children. The starting point of the tour is the public parking lot at the Auenhalle in Hopferau, just a few kilometers from Weissensee-Füssen.
At the parking lot, hikers follow the sidewalk, which after a few hundred meters leads them to the Lehern dairy, which is in a fantastic location in the Ostallgäu foothills of the Alps. There is a small museum here that reveals the secrets of cheese and a demonstration operation that provides exciting insights into the traditional cheese production of real Allgäuer mountain cheese and Allgäuer Emmentaler. Tours of the exhibition take place every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from May to October at 11:00 Uhr and from Monday to Friday at 13:30 Uhr. During the winter season they are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 13:30 Uhr. The dairy also has a rustic cheese alp, which invites you to enjoy the cheese specialties produced here with a view of the Allgäu mountains. There is also a small shop.
From the Lehern dairy, hikers simply follow the signposts and walk through the picturesque Allgäu foothills of the Alps. The path leads over lush green meadows, through a shady forest and over a bridge towards Speiden. There are a total of five information boards along the way that tell you everything you need to know about the two foods beer and cheese. In Speiden, the Beer and Cheese Trail leads hikers to the Mariahilfer Sudhaus, which is a combination of inn and brewery. During an interesting tour, excursionists can experience first hand how beer is brewed and find out what needs to be taken into account. The freshly brewed beer can of course also be enjoyed afterwards in the cozy inn, if desired in conjunction with delicious Allgäu dishes such as Krustenbratel with dumplings or Leberkäs with potato salad. Please note that the Mariahilfer Sudhaus is only open from Wednesday to Sunday, Wednesday to Friday from 15:30 to 24:00 Uhr, Saturday from 11:00 to 24:00 Uhr and Sunday from 11:00 to 20:00 Uhr.
